The YATOM Adoption/Fostering Family Continuity Program is a compassionate initiative by YATOM: The Jewish Foster and Adoption Network designed to support vulnerable children in the United States. Rooted in Jewish values that call us to care for the vulnerable and uplift those in need, the program offers small, meaningful financial grants to help cover essential costs associated with adopting and fostering children. By providing targeted assistance, the program helps families focus on creating loving, stable environments where children can thrive

I am a special education teacher and animal lover! My sweet daughter came to me as a foster child at 1 year old. We quickly bonded and for the last 11.5 years, she has been my purpose in life. As a single parent, it is challenging to make sure she is provided with all she needs, including specialists and therapy, to be her best self. However, I am honored to be her mom every day. This support from YATOM takes a bit of the weight off my shoulders and allows me to do more for my daughter. Thank you for being a part of our village.

Lauren and Rafi Glazer, December 2025

Lauren and Rafi began fostering in 2020, opening their home and hearts to children in need of safety, stability, and love. They participated in our Family Fellowship cohort 4. With the support of a YATOM microgrant, they were able to purchase beds for their children’s bedrooms—helping ensure that every child who entered their home had a comfortable place to rest and feel secure.

Since then, Lauren and Rafi have fostered 14 children and welcomed one child into their family through adoption. The children they have cared for have ranged in age from just 3 days old to 18 years, with stays lasting anywhere from a few days to as long as three years.

Their home is one where traditions are shared and created together. Each child brings their own customs and experiences, adding new meaning to family celebrations, while Lauren and Rafi joyfully share their own traditions with everyone who walks through their door.

Jenn, November 2025

Adoption was not always the plan. After careful discernment, I made the decision to adopt as a single mother by choice—a choice that comes with tremendous responsibility, deep intention, and, for me, no safety net.

I’ve worked hard to become ready, emotionally and logistically. I’ve taken parenting courses, sought professional guidance, built relationships with other adoptive families, and joined peer groups to ensure that I—and my future child—have meaningful support. I also volunteer with my adoption agency’s prospective parent training sessions and am committed to ethical adoption practices that honor and support birth mothers as central participants in this process. I chose domestic infant adoption because I knew that, realistically, I could not navigate the additional complexities and financial demands of fostering or adopting a child with special needs as a single parent. That decision came from a place of honesty and care—not limitation, but realism.

This process has required a level of preparation and self-awareness I didn’t anticipate. I know that financial hardship should never be the reason a prepared, responsible parent can’t adopt—but I also know the math doesn’t lie. I am doing everything in my power to give a child a loving, stable, permanent home. A grant to help with expenses to complete my homestudy provided needed support — and affirmed that doing this alone, thoughtfully and responsibly, is something worthy of help. I’m ready to be a mother.

I just need a little help getting to the moment I can hold my child in my arms.
