Native Kids Community Outreach
Bringing dignity, joy, and support to Native American children and families in remote communities.
The YATOM Native Kids Community Outreach supports vulnerable children in Native American communities across the United States. Rooted in the same Jewish values that call us to care for the vulnerable, the program offers small, meaningful grants that help cover everyday essentials, so families can focus on building a stable, loving home.
A Day on the Hopi Reservation
This season, YATOM had the honor of bringing joy, dignity, and hope to the Hopi Reservation, thanks to the support of our community and the ties we’ve built there.
With help from his mother, a proud member of the Hopi/Tewa community, our Native American Child Welfare & Humanitarian Support Coordinator, Brandon Nahsonhoya, loaded up gifts and made the five-hour drive to the reservation. What followed was a day full of laughter, surprise, and real connection.
In just one day, Brandon reached 150 children, 350 adults, and 75 senior citizens.
He made his way through three villages, even stopping by a Christmas bazaar, where people were stunned to realize he wasn’t selling anything, just giving gifts away. Children cheered as they opened toys, and for many, it was the first gift they’d ever received. For families facing deep poverty and isolation, moments like this mean everything.
These villages are remote, and they carry the weight of addiction, abuse, and poverty. But when an organization like YATOM shows up, it offers a glimpse of a future that looks different.
“I love being able to impact young lives like this.” — Brandon Nahsonhoya
